MUCK AND THE MIRES from Boston, Massachusetts have been called the greatest garage rock band
in the USA. Their songs, reminiscent of the 1960's British Invasion, are all two minutes long and ALL
POTENTIAL HITS! They have built a worldwide following through relentless touring, radio and satellite
airplay and a string of recordings considered by many to be cult classics. In addition, they have been
featured on MTV and gained national attention as the winners of Little Steven Van Zandt's national
battle of the garage bands.
What is interesting is that they are perhaps the first group to ever have a “Best Of” collection released
on two international labels before they even played a note together (“All Mucked Up -The Best of Muck
and the Mires”). In reality, these raw recordings, originally touted as the lost sessions of an unknown
sixties garage band, were really home demos by Muck (ex-The Queers/The Voodoo Dolls/The Nines)
and were never intended for commercial release.
However, a copy of these recordings made it’s way to Canada where it was issued as a CD on AMP
RECORDS (and subsequently on vinyl by Soundflat Records of Germany). It didn’t take long for others
to get hooked on this great collection of songs. The combination of three-part harmonies, jangling guitars,
harmonica, pounding backbeat and classic sixties rock and roll songwriting were unlike anything heard on
the radio in years, and this ensured that Muck and the Mires would quickly build their own cult following.
The “group” was soon invited to tour Canada to support their new CD, but without a real band, Muck
suddenly found himself in a lot of mire. However, within a few weeks, an incredible live band was assembled
featuring drummer JESSIE BEST, bassist JOHN QUINCY MIRE, and lead guitarist BRIAN MIRE.
The group breathed life into the disc’s songs, playing them with even greater energy, intensity and
velocity and quickly built a large following thanks to strong airplay and worldwide touring.
Over the next year, their timeless sound enabled them to secure tour support for a wide spectrum of
acts ranging from classic artists like THE BAY CITY ROLLERS and MIKE SMITH (Singer of THE DAVE
CLARK 5) to contemporary garage rockers such as The Mooney Suzuki and The Detroit Cobras.
In 2004, LITTLE STEVEN VAN ZANDT (Bruce Springsteen, Sopranos) named Muck and the Mires the
number one band in the USA in his UNDERGROUND GARAGE BATTLE OF THE BANDS. They played
before thousands at Little Steven’s Festival in NY, sharing the stage with Iggy Pop & the Stooges, The
Strokes, Bo Diddley and many many more. MTV and MTV2 ran a documentary of the event featuring contest
winners Muck and the Mires ten times, giving many fans their first glimpse of these garage rock icons.
In 2006, DIONYSUS RECORDS (Burbank, California) and Soundflat Records (Cologne Germany) jointly
released the album “1-2-3-4” which quickly climbed up college and satellite radio charts. The album
received critical acclaim including a four-star rating form England’s prestigious Uncut Magazine. At the
end of the year, following a slew of dates across the US, the group embarked on a seven-country
European Tour which included arena-sized dates with The MC5.
2007 began with the group playing a high profile showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Muck and the Mires
return to Europe for their 4th tour this summer including a date at The Cavern Club in Liverpool. On this
trip they will record their new CD in Scotland with legendary producer KIM FOWLEY at the helm.
